Over 20,000 residents and visitors are expected to attend
Tomball Night 2005, scheduled for Friday, August 5. The
theme, Discover Tomball, is centered around the
promotion of all businesses in the area. Attendees will have a
chance to explore the town on a night that most businesses stay
open late and offer special incentives. "Tomball Night is an
opportunity for outside visitors to come see what Tomball is all about,"
said the event’s co-chairperson Crystal Sulzer.
Dozens of Tomball businesses always participate, enticing customers with
entertainment, specials and discounts. These special sales and offers will be
in addition to the Tax-Free weekend advantages. Tomball Night was originally
started, more than 30 years ago, as a back-to-school shopping night, but has
grown into an end of summer celebration. There will be a carnival with rides, and
a new attraction this year – a giant swing. Another new addition to the festivities will
be vendors of all kinds along the street. More than 50 food and craft vendors will
participate. When night falls a parade of lights will proceed down Main Street,
preceding a dazzling spectacle of fireworks at the end of the evening.
Tomball businesses always sport elaborate displays to attract customers to the
event. Residents spending money locally (rather than taking their spending
dollars outside the city) benefits merchants by
increasing their buying power, which in
turn, benefits customers who will have
a wider variety of goods and
services to choose from.
Increased revenue also
expands job opportunities, and
increased sales tax revenue
supports the infrastructural
demands of the city.
