Protect It...It's Yours!
Here is a quick message from our friend Deputy Cerda over at the
Harris County Sheriff's Office.
--------------
We are starting a great new year! Unfortunately, so are the criminals. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office and ABTPA (Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority) want to remind citizens - Don’t fall victim to a vehicular crime by leaving your vehicle doors unlocked, windows cracked and not removing the keys.
These types of crimes are ones of opportunity and you don't want to make it easier for a thief.
It does not matter if you’re driving an everyday commuter, lifted truck, sports car or a motorcycle. If you drive, more than likely someone else wants it. It’s a fact; most stolen vehicles are never recovered in the same condition as they were taken. More common than ever, a lot of them are being offered for sale on various web sites soon after being stolen.
We also mustn’t forget what happens next if we leave a purse, wallet or even our personal mail in a vehicle when it’s stolen: You may become the victim of identity theft!
To help lessen the probability of your vehicle being stolen or parts being removed, authorities have always recommended layering your vehicle with protection. Aside from doing what we have already discussed, one may equip their vehicle with a GPS based alarm/tracking system or multiple locks on each wheel for starters. Without trying to sound outdated, the bright red or yellow “Club” on the steering wheel might be a good deterrent.
What we are trying to say is, by placing items like this on a vehicle adds multiple “Layers” of protection; “Layers add time in taking a vehicle. Time is something a criminal doesn’t like to spend”. “Protect It, It’s yours”.
