Apartment BOOM in Tomball
According to the president of Apartment Data Services in Houston, multifamily housing options have doubled in Tomball in the last two years. In just this past year, 1,300 new apartments came to the area--making the total come out to 5,127. The boom is filling a much-needed purpose, as multifamily housing options were notoriously lacking in the community years prior. The cause of the rise is no doubt in part due to the Exxon Mobile campus, road construction in the area, and new business developments. The executive director of the Tomball Economic Development Corp., Kelly Violette, commented that the increase in apartments was needed for another reason: both the younger generations and the "empty nesters" seemed to be searching for other housing options. The big houses and large backyards weren't appealing to those that were trying to downsize and decrease the amount of work needed in order to keep a household in order. Currently, Tomball's new abundance of apartments are at 77% capacity. An average one bedroom apartment, class A, averages around $1,040, and class B apartments (built in the last 20 years, more dated interior) go for around $760.
