Invasive Species Alert - Giant Applesnail

Loading Image...

Have you seen this snail?

Giant Applesnails have been found in numerous water bodies, especially in the Houston area, often as the result of aquarium releases.

These large snails can wreak havoc on aquatic vegetation and could carry a rat lungworm parasite that can infect humans, causing a type of meningitis (parasite not yet found in Texas).

Texans are encouraged to report sightings of these large snails and their pink egg clusters, with photos, to [email protected].
