As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Nick Johnson, owner of The Grounds Guys.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
The Grounds Guys of Tomball offers Lawn Care & Landscaping for Residential and Commercial customers.  We do more than just mow grass; we can do flowerbeds, sod installation, seasonal care of turf & flower beds, trimming of shrubs, hedges, and trees. We can also take care of your Holiday Lighting and Landscape Lighting, and Pressure Wash sidewalks & driveways.  

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I have always enjoyed taking care of my own yard and have a passion for the outdoors so, naturally, it was an easy leap to a Landscape business when researching entrepreneurship opportunities.
I believe there was a need in the community for a Lawn Maintenance & Landscaping business that offers Trained & Professional personnel that could guarantee Quality, Safety, & Reliability while staying focused on the needs of the customer.  We will fill that void by providing outstanding customer service while standing by and delivering on our word.  Also, we will provide the flexibility needed to be able to adapt to every customer’s desires.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
The Grounds Guys is a Family Owned & Operated Business rooted in the Tomball & Magnolia Community.  We are focused on Customer Service & Satisfaction.  The primary objective is to take care of the needs of the customer and make it right. 

What is your favorite part of running this business?
My Team.  The business runs on the hard work and the caring touch of the Lawn Technicians.  These guys have no problem getting dirty and sweaty while taking pride in the finished product.  Truly overachievers: I can’t tell them to hurry up since their comeback is always “I’m taking care of the customer!”  Each has been taught to work until the job is done and not to worry about the time spent on each yard.  

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Homeowners & Businesses; we specialize in making a yard or business front eye-catching and appealing.  I love designing and installing colorful flower beds and blooming shrubs.  We will adapt to your needs and wants to produce.      

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I am a Disabled Veteran of the US Army having served over 22 years in service.  Customer Service is my #1 Priority.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?  
As the days and months go by, we will only get better at what we do.  Our Safety First & Customer Always Culture will remain forefront in the Lawncare Technician’s every task.
